Chair of IBM’s SOA Governance Working Group to Present at Worldwide SOA Forum

Senior Technical Staff Member, Steve Graham, to Present “How SOA Governance Fits Within IBM’s SOA Foundation”

CAMBRIDGE, MA, June 20, 2006 – The SOA Forum, an exclusive roundtable of senior IT executives and enterprise architects from Fortune 500 companies and Government agencies, today announced that Steve Graham, Senior Technical Member in IBM (NYSE: IBM) Software Group’s SOA Foundation Architecture team will present "How SOA Governance Fits Within IBM’s SOA Foundation”: on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 at 2:00 PM (ET).

Graham’s presentation will focus on the emergence of SOA as a dominant discussion point within the industry. As the “approach of choice” for building enterprise systems, SOA’s advantages have typically focused on agile systems, loose coupling, application reuse, and lack of single administrative domain, often resulting in new challenges to governance. These challenges, in turn, often demand both an evolution of and maturity in the way customers and the industry alike understand, embrace and realize the promise of SOA and SOA governance.

When asked to frame the implications of SOA Governance for today’s IT industry, Graham takes a page from American history. “I’m reminded of a quote by President James Madison...if men were angels, no government would be necessary. If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.” Applying a contemporary spin to the analogy, Graham added, “When was the last time an angel built an IT System? Until angels build IT, you will need SOA Governance.”

“WebLayers is proud to have Steve Graham present the latest in our series of SOA Forum webcasts,” said Gregg Bjork, CEO of WebLayers. “As an Advanced Member of IBM’s PartnerWorld Industry Networks, we are equally proud to align our company and our WebLayers CenterTM solution with IBM’s market-leading software for on-demand business, WebSphere® Application Server. Our partnership enables customers of both companies to achieve applications and services that are manageable as well as reusable while transforming legacy, silo-based enterprises into next generation, service oriented architectures.”
