WebLayers to Provide Free SOA Risk Assessments
Automated SOA Governance Leader Evaluates SOA Artifacts Against 2000 Policies and Best Practices; Provides Comprehensive Report on Risk Impact of Problems Found
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – October 16, 2007 – WebLayers™ Inc., the market leader for automated Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) governance, announced today an innovative new offering designed to help reduce risk associated with SOA implementations -- the WebLayers SOA Risk Assessment Program. Qualifying companies can take advantage of this free program to have their SOA artifacts tested against a set of WebLayers' extensive Policy Libraries, containing over 2000 policies, industry standards and best practices.
Industry analysts agree that proactive quality assessments and lifecycle governance are crucial for SOA success. "A chief impediment to successful SOA adoption has been ensuring quality and consistency through effective policy management and governance," said Anne Thomas Manes, Vice President and Research Director for the Burton Group. "Any program that educates organizations about SOA vulnerabilities would go a long way toward ultimately improving SOA quality, and hastening adoption of an architecture that we believe will be very valuable in the long term."
Offering evaluates SOA artifacts for key metrics such as interoperability, security, performance and portability
WebLayers recommends that companies take part in a SOA Risk Assessment early on, when services are still in the development stage. As part of each SOA Risk Assessment, WebLayers will review artifacts for key metrics such as interoperability, security, performance and portability and provide a detailed report on potential issues and risk factors. This allows companies to see what they may have missed in their manual reviews and understand the vulnerabilities of their SOA projects early in the process, helping them avoid costs, extensive rework and failures later on. Importantly, the WebLayers report also quantifies the potential cost of the risk associated with a company's SOA, including: reuse (or inability to reuse) by new service consumers, and rework due to security, performance, and portability issues. SOA Risk Assessment customers also have access to WebLayers policy experts who can provide recommendations and an action plan for improving policy conformance.
"If services aren't architected and developed correctly, they can never be deployed correctly," said Gregg Bjork, CEO of WebLayers. "And once a flawed service makes it into the enterprise, the problems just compound as these services are assembled into composite applications. WebLayers' SOA Risk Assessment program and automated governance solutions help ensure that artifacts are created correctly before they are made available to others, to help reduce the cost and improve the ROI of SOA initiatives."
