WebLayers Center Named 2008 CODiE Award Finalist for "Best Web Services Solution"

WebLayers recognized for unique approach to automating SOA Governance from design to deployment

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – February 15, 2008 – WebLayers™ Inc., which automates SOA Governance, announced today that its WebLayers Center solution has been named a finalist for the 2008 CODiE Awards in the category “Best Web Services Solution.”

WebLayers Center helps organizations realize the promise of web services and Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA) by providing a policy-based approach that automates what has traditionally been a manual, labor-intensive process of defining and enforcing governance.

WebLayers Center offers the industry’s largest collection of pre-built governance policies – over 2,000 – that span the lifecycle of design, development and deployment. By automating SOA Governance, WebLayers enables organizations to jump-start a governance initiative, and scale it across the software development lifecycle in order to:

  • Mitigate non-compliance risk
  • Identify software development problems early in the lifecycle
  • Significantly reduce re-work
  • Improve artifact re-use rates; and
  • Redeploy staff from manual governance to more valuable and strategic work.

A recent survey by The SOA Forum found that 85 percent of companies still depend on manual reviews to try to achieve governance. Nearly half of survey respondents admitted that often, their web services go into production without any sort of review. WebLayers customers such as Thomson Financial and GE Money are proving that effective, automated governance can substantially reduce or eliminate risk associated with poorly constructed Web services. Instead of overspending on registries, repositories and runtime management, WebLayers customers are focused on ensuring quality early in the process, so by the time a new service makes it to a repository, it is rock solid.

Real SOA governance starts with policy management in design time:
Leading analysts and large enterprises have named 2008 “The Year of Policy” – the year in which organizations recognize that design-time policy management is the foundation for SOA governance.

“Real SOA governance starts with policy management in design time, and then continues on through deployment,” said Gregg Bjork, CEO of WebLayers. “We’ve seen time and time again that design-time SOA governance can have a substantial impact on web services quality, and hence dramatically accelerate SOA deployments. We’re very pleased to have been selected from so many high-caliber nominees as a finalist for the 2008 CODiE Awards.”

"Competition is tough this year and that makes selection as a CODiE Finalist a real achievement," said Ken Wash, SIIA president. "All the companies on this year’s list should feel justifiably proud of their recognition."
