WebLayers Center for z/OS

Large organizations continue to leverage the mainframe for a majority of their business-critical data management and processing.  WebLayers Center for z/OS today plays a critical role in helping organizations to overcome many of the challenges they are faced with including:

  • Codifying the institutional knowledge of mainframe programming best practices and guidelines to ensure it passed along to the next generation of programmers
  • Define and enforce application development policies that ensure efficient utilization of mainframe processing in runtime
  • Effectively service-enable mainframe resources as part of the transition to a Service Oriented Architecture
  • Automating the process of manual code reviews to ensure conformance with company standards, guidelines and best-practices

In use today at many of the world’s largest companies and government agencies, WebLayers Center is the only solution to ensure compliance throughout the lifecycle which provides the necessary visibility and guidance to govern effectively.

WebLayers Policy Manager™ automates the definition, association and management of governance policies and enforcement for mainframe assets including:

  • Programming languages including COBOL
  • Ability to parse COBOL subsystem commands including CICS, IMS, and DB2.
  • Non-source components including JCL, IAM, and VSAM.

WebLayers Governors™ ensure the enforcement of the right policies, at the right time, in the right context.  WebLayers now has Governors that interface directly with a variety of IT infrastructure that run on the mainframe and open systems to govern mainframe assets.

  • Software Change Management Systems
    • Serena ChangeMan ZMF - To govern assets that reside directly on the mainframe, WebLayers now offers a Governor for Serena ChangeMan ZMF.
    • IBM Rational ClearCase - For mainframe assets that are managed on open system platforms, WebLayers provides a Governor for IBM Rational ClearCase.
  • SOA Registries and Repositories
    • WebSphere Service Registry and Repository for z/OS - To govern XML and service artifacts that are managed on the mainframe.
  • Interactive Development Environments
    • Rational Developer for System z – To execute mainframe policy conformance checks from the IDE

WebLayers Center Server™ has been certified to run on z/OS.  As a Java application, WebLayers Center Server runs within WebSphere Application Server for z/OS.  WebLayers Center Server can also be deployed on Linux on IBM System z as well as a variety of other open systems and Windows platforms.

WebLayers Policy Libraries™ provide the industry's largest collection of pre-built policies to provide immediate governance expertise out-of-the-box.  The Libraries today provide over 2,000 pre-built policies to provide a comprehensive design-time governance solution and include:

  • Mainframe
  • SDLC
  • Java
  • C#
  • .Net
  • Open Source
  • SOA
  • AJAX UI and Accessibility
  • Security

Together with our largest mainframe customers, WebLayers will be extending its mainframe policy libraries with an additional 100 policies related to COBOL best practices.
